(CNN) – For the first time in the election cycle, CNN's Electoral Map shows Democrat Barack Obama moving over the 270 electoral vote threshold needed to win the White House. The hotly contested state of Virginia moves from "tossup" to "lean Obama." North Dakota moves from "safe McCain" to "lean McCain," and New Jersey moves from "lean Obama" to "safe Obama."
The trend is your friend.
I know it's an unpopular concept among your set, but some of us prefer to let the people actually vote before we go about 'calling' elections. Virtual reality is not always reality, in case you haven't noticed.
your set
Looks like my set is gonna trump your set this time around, ace.
while this is GREAT news, we must not become complacent..
get out and do your civic duty.... VOTE.
There goes reality, being all liberal again.
What is good about reality in red?
- Budget surplus in trillions
- Economy is robust
- Jobs grows is up
- Privacy is protected
- The Administration does not claim itself above the law
- Afghanistan is a flourishing democratic state
- al-Qaida is beheaded -- Osama bin Laden is in American custody
- Sanctions collapsed Saddam's regime -- Null American casualties in Iraq
NOT!

If the whole map goes blue, I'll need to check my color settings.
Who called Florida in 2000? It seems a little early...but that's just me.
Heh. This is all Saturday morning quarterbacking, if you will.
Nice. Its probably about as good as the projections for the Patriots before the season started. No telling what is going to happen in the next three weeks.
Well, if past is prologue, we'll see more of the same....McCain flailing, Obama side-stepping and counter-punching.
To keep it sporting.
Bob and weave all night tonight. I'm waiting for the nuke McCain is going to drop about 2-weeks out. I wonder what they will fabricate to win the Moral/Character/More American battle so they they will steal this election as well. I wonder if it will even be effective or if it is going to be seen as the last reeling attempt at a knockout punch right before the campaign collapses.
But then again, they'll alway have the voter fraud card to play on Nov. 5 based on the ground game they're throwing out there now.
I have no doubt that they have some sort of October surprise ready, but if they think it'll turn the tide then it better be a big one. I mean on the order of size of a war. Other then that the momentum is on Barack's side and I think some people will be surprised at the size of his victory.

From what I've read, no right-wing group is queuing up to run a Swiftboat-style campaign against Obama in the remaining days. And McCain is just about broke. Whatever negative message they'll try to deliver will be overwhelmed it appears. Of course, there's always Drudge. I'm sure he'll try something to make everyone look at him.
The only poll that matters is the one after the elections.
Just go out and vote no state is safe.
Already voted. I live in L.A. and Barack is going to take California easily, but why take a chance?
I've already voted, too. Colorado is looking more and more blue, but I'd rather work on it than risk it.
Unless the McCain folks have high-rez pics of Barack groping Sarah Palin, I think they've shot their shot. Wall Street and the economy are so in the toity, a November surprise by the GOP would be looked at as just another McCain stunt.
Apologies to anyone I haven't responded to out there on other threads. The conversation tracker appears to be screwed up today.
October surprise : Barack Hussein Obama isn't his real name . Its actually Tyrone Washington and absolutely no way in hell can a guy named Tyrone be President.
Seriously though these early can only hurt Obama in m opinion. They may have the undesired effect of its in the bag syndrome and some voters stay home.
Actually it Tyrone Shoelaces from the Cheech and Chong hit "Basketball Jones".
Over-confidence is a hazard in any competitive field. I think it's probably that Obama learned a lesson in the primaries and will attempt to close out McCain in several ways. One of them by rallying the troops late.
I will put my money on this October surprise, John McCain will suspend his campaign and go to Afghanistan and finally capture Bin Laden since he is running for President based on being a "war hero" which I don't get since he got caught but hey that is just my opinion. Everyone look out because the republicans could allow another 9/11 just to make McCain look good and scare folks out of voting for Obama.
The only realistic October surprise that I can think if is if McCain suddenly dumps Palin and asks Condi Rice to come on board instead. It'd shock everyone and would actually have a chance to succeed.
If this is the case, it's hopeful for an Obama administration.
He will need a landslide, especially among so called swing states to have a "mandate" to govern the country and overcome the radical element within the republican/conservative side of politics.
Almost certain Obama and the Dems will have both the House and Senate, and possibly a 60-vote filibuster-proof Senate. If the Dems can't enact positive change with that line-up, I'll be the first in line to vote them out in 2010.
One way bush pissed off a lot of people(and yeah i know way way way way way way way down the list)
was when he got 50% of the vote and was relected and he called it a mandate for his polices. He didnt reach out to the other side, he told them they were wrong and he didnt need them. last thing obama need to do is declare he has a mandate from the american people for anything
many peopel voiting for obama arent doing so cause they support liberal ideals. They want a fundemenal change in our countries charecter. From oreign policy to how we treat each other.
The boat looks like it is goign to be rowing a bit harder from the left side, but it's important to remember.. you sill need the rowers on the right, or you get no where.
Perhaps we will see the President put us under Martial Law and cancel the elections. Term limits? Bah!
schnoo...I think you are right about rallying the troops late. I think that with the 30 minute air time on, I believe, two national broadcasting companies, that is going to be the rally.
And I also would not want anyone to get over confident about victory on Nov. 4th. I was just watching CNN and they were talking about that factor. The only thing that is different at this point in time compared to years ago is our economy is down the tubes, job loss is at an all time high, etc. I don't think that something that happened years ago will match the game changing situation we are in now as a country.
don
Agreed. One would have to be really out of touch to be complacent in this election. Or moved by last-second negative histrionics.

I deleted that comment as spam, but restored it when I saw you had responded. The guy is spamming that same comment around Newsvine.
It is spam and I think should be deleted even if people respond to it. But hey, it's your thread. Just one man's opinion.
