He's got some history: Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho) pleads guilty to disorderly conduct from a "lewd" incident in an airport restroom

That's Larry. Oh yeah, he's the one on the right.

advertisement

Here's the link from Roll Call on this breaking story:

Update 9:00am Tuesday: Craig has announced he is leaving his post as head of the Senate group for Romney. I'll bet Mitt is sad to see that john door close.

http://schnoo.newsvine.com/_news/2007/08/27/924706-republican-senator-larry-craig-arrested-pleads-guilty-following-incident-in-airport-restroom

I did some research (ok, I did some googling, all right....you do the same thing, so lay off) and found this:

"A long-time outspoken conservative, Larry Craig was "outed" by gay activist Mike Rogers. Rogers has not revealed his sources, and Craig denies the claim. On 17 October 2006, Rogers wrote in his blog, "I have done extensive research into this case, including trips to the Pacific Northwest to meet with men who have say they have physical relations with the Senator. I have also met with a man here in Washington, D.C., who says the same -- and that these incidents occurred in the bathrooms of Union Station. None of these men know each other, or knew that I was talking to others. They all reported similar personal characteristics about the Senator, which lead me to believe, beyond any doubt, that their stories are valid.""

http://www.nndb.com/people/214/000032118/

Craig's outing made Bill Maher's show:

http://downwithtyranny.blogspot.com/2006/10/bill-maher-asks-barney-frank-if-larry.html

And it was kicked around on wonkette last October:

http://wonkette.com/politics/larry-craig/breaking-more-like-fairy-craig-208289.php

and this from wikipedia:

"On June 11, 2007, Senator Craig was arrested at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on suspicion of lewd conduct. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct in August 2007. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees and was given one year of probation. A 10-day jail sentence was stayed. According to Roll Call, the arresting officer filed the following in his report of the incident:

(At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot.... The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area.)

"The glory hole incident: "A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a 'he said/he said misunderstanding,' and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday [August 27] afternoon." "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Craig#Arrest_and_conviction

Here's more on the Mike Rogers "outing" of Craig:

"Rogers said he has talked to three men unknown to each other who all reported in detail their sexual encounters with Craig over the last four years. The men were of legal age, Rogers said."

http://www.newwest.net/index.php/city/article/idaho_sen_larry_craig_denies_allegations_of_same_sex_affairs/C108/L108/

It would appear that the Mike Rogers story had some legs, so to speak, and some truthiness to it also.

Here's what the Craig people had to say at the time:

"Senator Craig's office flatly rejected the claims. "The Senator says this story is absolutely ridiculous – almost laughable," said press secretary Sid Smith. "It has no basis in fact."" (also from the newwest.net link above).

And here's what Craig himself is trying to pass off now:

"At the time of the incident, I complained to the police that they were misconstruing my actions. I was not involved in any inappropriate conduct. I should have had the advice of counsel in resolving this matter. In hindsight, I should not have pled guilty. I was trying to handle this matter myself quickly and expeditiously."

http://www.ktvb.com/news/localnews/stories/ktvbn-aug2707-larry_craig.7728c485.html

So, it would appear that yet another stalwart Republican conservative has gone down, so to speak, in hypocrisy. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

schnoo:

Between Vick and Gonzales, some very clever staffer in Craig's office figured this was an optimal day to leak the arrest report to Roll Call.

Promotion for that staffer, I say.

There ain't a blanket big enough in the world for that cover.

You know what's even funnier and also probably true?

When the WH was batting around the timing for the Gonzales resignation, I bet they too figured the Vick story would be a good day to take the edge off.

Which means Michael Vick earns a Medal of Freedom, right?

Still the Craig staffer is tops, because she or he'd have to have done it on a carpe diem basis.

Jack - 2.4 - as I said today on another thread - Vick got top billing over the Gonzales resignation last night. And much was made about the resignation news hitting on a Monday vs. a Friday - but it's AUGUST......Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays.....who the heck cares? The dem majority was otherwise engaged in vacay. Touche.

This is sad really. The republicans have trapped themselves into an unrealistic ideology that can not be adhered to. Homosexuality is not a moral issue and never was, no matter how much you try to make it as such. It is one of the normal variant conditions of nature inherent to the species. But that only infers that evolution is valid, and we have an animal ancestry. What a slippery slope they have placed themselves on.
As long as they don't hit on me I don't care how they get their nut.

What?, are you stupid, you must be if you read that into anything I said? But Dems aren't the ones who constantly claim they hold the moral High Ground over the GOP and that God is on our side making us above sin! That is the difference. I don't think you comprehend what I wrote at all. That is your fault, your lack of ability to understand. I can't help that, because what I said is It is one of the normal variant conditions of nature inherent to the species. stupid |ˈst(y)oōpid|
    adjective ( -pider, -pidest)
    lacking intelligence or common sense

What, we are to ignore it? Their comes a time when you just have to say what is what and not dance around it. You have to take a stand. Being PC all the time solves nothing. When reason and truth are used and fail, time and time again, it is no longer possible to blame it on a mere lack of knowledge and finally concede it is an inability to understand. Do you believe there are no Stupid people in the world? If he worked for me I'd fire him. Here you can only ignore them or expose them. He admitted it. He flaunts it. There are plenty of people smarter then I am And I have the intelligence to acknowledge this fact and seek the company of these people so i can learn from them and better myself. If I were to do otherwise it would be stupid of me. This is the curse of pride. I am ignorant of many things but not so stupid as to ignore this fact and defend my ignorance as a virtue. We are to "Get Smarter Here" That will never happen untill we have the wisdom to admit we don't know some things that others do, and not attack them for having insights that we have not come to on our own. Read his stupid first comment he made to me. He couldn't respond to it, except to misinterpret it and twist something out of it I didn't even say. If it's not stupid then he expects everyone else to be, if he thinks he can say what he wants without any bases in fact, and not be called on it for what it is. Stupid.

Yes i know this. You meet a stranger on the street you get more respect then many of the NV members give you. Respect is earned. Sorry you don't agree. Or is this gangster respect here? Respect me or I'll pop a cap in you ass respect? Don't claim umbrage and threaten me with the COH for not respecting you, after you lie to me and disrespect my honor and character by misquoting what I say to discredit me. When the first thing a person does when you meet them is question your integrity, where is the respect! Don't use the COH as a weapon to demand respect from other members when you don't deserve it. Because you don't respect others. But in an civil society a persons veracity and good character is a given. Sorry you don't see that.

I am glad that you can learn something from the posters. And....today's lesson is that I am a She and not a He. A He would no write in the very feminine way that I do.

I don't consider myself an Eistein, all of you know more about certain subjects than I do, I respect that and I learn from many but I keep my distance from getting a thin skin. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Farris, for example, we disagree in some political arena. However, his gentlemanship shows in every word.

I have a black belt posting, not for my knowledge but because I can hold my horses and sometimes my sarcasm takes over words that will not show my upbringing. If anyone call me stupid I don't engage in trying to show him/her that I am.

Because you thought that I was a man I owe you this explanation. No, I am a very proud member of the F gender.

To be accurate, Craig did not confess. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct stemming from the initial lewd conduct pandering charge.

Craig's resignation means little to the rest of the world, Schnoo. To Idahoans, it means that no longer will their state be represented in the Senate by a longtime lying sack of goat droppings. The governor will appoint a fresh new lying sack of goat droppings next Tuesday or Wednesday.

Vitter stays in office because his resignation would allow a Democratic governor to appoint a Democrat in his place. Idaho's governor is Republican and the thought is whoever is appointed would have 18 months or so to ingratiate himself (kiss ass) with the public in the Gem State. So the message for you other Republican crooks is: don't plead guilty, make them find you guilty.

It happened to me when I was 10 or 11, Just like that, except when I got out of the stall to go wash my hands he did too, and then reached over and tried to touch my crotch, at a Sears. That's when I ran and reported it to security but they let him get away.
